WWE Live India: Jinder Mahal loses to Triple H||Delhi embraces Roman Reigns
FINALLY THE DAY OF WWE INDIA IS BACK
NEW DELHI: The buzz around the WWE Live India Supershow was built around Jinder Mahal‘s maiden appearance as a WWEsuperstar and the sizable crowd at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium embraced The Morden Day Maharaja, despite the fact, that the Indian-origin wrestler was not put over ‘The King of Kings’ Triple H in the main event of what was an entertaining three hours of WWE programming. While15,000-capacity of the IGI was not packed to the rafters, the WWE fans did make enough noise for Triple H to even share a dance with Mahal after the match and with the Singh Brothers, before signing off.
While the official count of the attendance is not yet available, it is fair to say that roughly 8000 odd trickled in for the event, the first since January 2016. While the January event had Roman Reigns as the main attraction with two Indian performers from NXT – Jeet Rama and Kishan Raftar – the only Indian connect to the event, this live event was centered around Mahal with Singh Brothers (Indo-Canadian) and Rama and Raftar in the card as well.
Mahal’s got a rapturous reception when he walked in wearing the Narendra Kumar designed ‘Royal Robe’ with chants of ‘Jinder, Jinder’ echoing around the arena, but once ‘The Game’ by Motorhead blared out, it was clear who the Delhi crowd had been waiting for.
Triple H, fresh from a title match for the Intercontinental Championship against Reigns at the Abu Dhabi live event, did not miss a step and along with a spirited performance from Mahal, put on a classic main event. Incredibly, the main event went for about 40 minutes, but did not looked stretched.
Both Triple H and Jinder are methodical in the approach, and did well by building to the end in well thought out manner. Counters were mixed in with several mat-based wrestling, but it perfectly set for the big finish.
MAHAL CAN’T BEAT THE GAME AT WWE LIVE INDIA
Mahal impressed grinding it out against Triple H, and the Singh brothers, as has been the norm with flung over the barricades at the ringside area. Mahal even kicked out of the first of the two Pedigrees that Triple H managed to hit. However, there was no Khallas on show. After the match, Triple H acknowledged Mahal’s effort with a handshake before stating the that Mahal has truly earned his respect. Mahal humbly accepted, The Game’s appreciation and even touched his feet, as mark of respect. He went on to thank the fans once Triple H left and promised that the next when he will come to India, he will come as the WWE Champion
But, the biggest pop of the night was reserved for Roman Reigns and the Shield. Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose tore the house down but once Reigns got the hot tag in against the team of Samoa Joe, Cesaro and Sheamus, the decibel levels were probably high enough for the WWE to notice. Among the fans, who had their wrestling gears and T-Shirts on, Reigns was the clear favourite and they ensured that their voices were heard and the Shield put on a good match with The Bar and Joe.
Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt opened the show to a lukewarm response while Sasha Banks vs Alexa Bliss for the RAW Women’s championship was also a quiet affair. The crowd poured in later on only and by the time Kane and Braun Strowman went at each other, the mood was set. Kane introducing the chairs made the crowd go beserk and Strowman powerslamming the Big Red Machine in the table also got good reactions.
Elias got under the skin of the Delhi crowd with a song that had the references of Delhi roads full of dogs and monkey and how he wanted to punch little kids. Crusierweight champion also took the same route as Elias but his match with Kalisto was nothing to write about. Jason Jordan impersonated his ‘father’ Kurt Angle, when the crowd chanted ‘Who’s you daddy’ while Rama and Raftar notched up a win against the Miztourage – Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel. Titus O’ Neil and Apollo Crews notched up a victory over Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson.
